Hiking Trails on Vancouver Island, BC

Galloping Goose Trail, Vancouver Island, BC

This is one of the most beautifully picturesque trails in Canada, and we strongly recommend that adding this to your "to do list" while visiting Vancouver Island. This trail was dedicated in 1989, and it is named after the gawky and noisy gas rail-car, which use to carry passengers between Sooke and Victoria in the 1920's. The trail itself is built upon the abandoned rail beds and trestles of that original passenger rail-car of the '20's.

The trail covers almost 60kms and is suited for walkers and cyclists, and even horseback riders are encouraged to experience this historical trail. Along the trail, you can experience areas to picnic, swim and just be awed by the historical trestle bridges.

West Coast Trail, BC

This trail is a 5-7 day hike through 75km of beautiful untouched coastline around the southern part of Vancouver Island. Originally, the trail was known as the Lifesaving Trail due to the huge amounts of shipwrecks in the area, and survivors would then hike the trail in order to get help.

The trail these days is used by hundreds of nature and outdoor enthusiasts who love adventurous hikes. It can be treacherous though, so caution is strongly advised and only experienced hikers with appropriate gear should attempt this one.
